Si was in Redhill today, on another day’s shoot for Smart. It’s pretty much the final stage of six months’ work rebranding this innovative office design company, and we’re all excited about the imminent launch of their new website, brochure and other marketing collateral.
But what he came back to the studio buzzing about today was Yukon.
Yukon is a black lab (a little like Si’s dog, Hero), and he’s a Canine Partner. Si met him because his man, Graeme, owns a Smart garden studio.
A few years ago, Graeme had massive stroke. He and his wife Pat were learning to live with the chronic fitting that was a repucussion of the stroke, but it was limiting and overshadowed life. (You can’t go off fishing if you’re likely to have a fit).
When Yukon joined them, both Graeme and Pat managed to, literally, get their lives back.
The trained dog senses the fits in advance, warns Graeme and gets him in a chair if possible. If a fit does set in, Yukon nudges and tugs Graeme into the recovery position – and then presses the panic button to the hospital and stays with him until help arrives.
Charlie Dalton has been so taken with Yukon and his amazing impact on Graeme and Pat’s family life that Smart is now sponsoring a Canine Partner dog. This seems like a jolly good excuse for an ahhhhhhhh-inspiring photo of a basket of puppies.

We were smiling all over our Springy faces when, within 24 hours of launching the newest on line competition for Belvoir Cordials, it’d already received over 100 entries.
What always surprises and delights us is the effort that this amount of people go to, at such speed. Every month we set a pretty complicated challenge – be it poetry, jokes or fantasy like last month’s ‘perfect other half’ comp – and every month the Belvoir-buying public rise to it with gusto.
This month’s mechanic is the requirement to list the six tracks you’d lay down for your perfect evening (to accompany your Bigham’s meal for two, the prize). It’s been a mixed bag, to say the least. Here’s Aprille’s Top Six Top Six, so far.
1. UB40 – Rat in mi Kitchen

It’s Friday, it’s been a fierce week, so it’s got to be… fish and chips from The Sole Bay, on take out, at the meeting table. Yum.

We’re very excited about the official launch of Bespoke tonight, the society outside catering service by the uber talented Stephen David and Rebecca Mackenzie. Si is digging out his glad rags even as I write.

We are proud and delighted to report that, for the third year running, Spring will be working alongside Alex Paul and Brigit Parker of Visit Suffolk to market the county’s tourism offering nationwide.
Ad creative is currently in development in our studio, and I can reveal that this year’s advertising will be powered by some incredible new photography, commissioned via Visit Britain. Spring’s team had some involvement in these – though not in the way you’d expect!
We love Suffolk passionately – it’s why Spring’s based here, rather than London or the home counties – and the whole team is aware of the responsibility and privilege of our commission on this account.
