Intern’s Blog: Day Six | An aerial London
Well, Simon had invited me to go on an aerial photoshoot with him, and after leaving at 5.30, we finally arrived at the airfield. Juppy, an fantastic aviator wearing, cigarette smoking Essex pilot was flying, and the experience in a helicopter is unparalleled to anything I’ve ever done before.
We flew right into central London – the client’s building was close to St Paul’s … so while Simon was snapping away at an obscure building, I was taking photos of all the sights. It’s just really odd being at a height lower than the top of the Gherkin. After 40 minutes in the air, we headed back to the air strip.
After a very leisurely 3 hour wait until the next flight; which included hearing about a Suffolk tornado on BBC news, ‘oh, again?’, and having a browse through the mixing deck lorry thing that they use for big sports and news events, we got another helicopter flight back into the same area of London, with an equally ‘Top Gun’ pilot (is it an employment requirement?). Again, some fantastic views.
Back to the airfield again after an hour’s flight then the joys of 5pm traffic jams. I don’t think we had any of those in the air. Looking forward to going to Ipswich and Bury tomorrow with Lizzie and Aprille for a spot of market research.
Credit to mugley for the photo – I left my photos at home :(
