Facebook tips and tricks

Facebook is a wonderful tool for any business, it allows you to stay in touch with your targeted fan base and is another platform besides your blog that can reach potential customers and offer gentle reminders of your brand. Here are a few tips to optimise your Facebook page and make sure you’re getting the most out of your experience.

#1. Stick with a ‘fan page’ instead of a group. Groups are wonderful for a series of individuals who post topics under their own name. Fan pages represent a ‘whole’. Spoken with one voice, a fan page is the best way to represent a brand or business.

#2. Share your content! Facebook has great applications for sharing content, for example RSS Graffitti which allows you to share your blog content to your Facebook fan page. This app is “meant to take the fuss out of keeping your Facebook friends and fans updated.” And it does just what it says on the tin.

#3. Creative consistency is key. Don’t deluge your followers with pointless updates a hundred times a day. Put yourself in their shoes… are your brand’s updates relevant and interesting? Are they somehow tied in with topics that relate to why you chose to follow that brand in the first place? If not, then it is time to rethink your posting topics so they have more relevance to your brand and make sure that they reinforce what you are trying to say.

#4. Facebook branding. Make sure that your company looks great by creating a custom landing page. We’ve created many of these pages for clients in the past and they serve as a great way to stamp your brand on this huge platform.

#5. Create new lists. Many people overlook the fact that you can sort your friends and affiliates by adding them to new lists. Potential clients, previous clients, fans, colleagues… by creating a separate list for each of these groups of followers you will be able to maintain your following. You will be able to easily recognise which lists go up and down depending on how you maintain your post’s creative consistency. Losing potential clients? It’s time to change how you communicate with your followers!
